Character

The main character in this story is never named. The character is probably an Englishman. From what I can speculate is that he was a prisoner in England or in some part of Europe controlled by the English. The French came a captured the prison from the English which is why they show up in the end. He is portrayed as a smarter and a relative quick thinker. He has the idea of counting the steps around the room to find how larger it is. He also uses the meat to escape the pendulum. This make me think he can also be a prisoner of the English so he could be French or German for that matter. Also he must have had done something pretty bad to be tortured like this so he can be a soldier for an enemy of Britain, because why else would they put him through this kind of torture of cruelty if he was a citizen of Britain.
